The Chiropractic profession is the third largest health care profession after medicine and dentistry. It has a history of over 117 years in North America, but a larger history of spinal care for the suffering of mankind in China for over 6000 years, as depicted on ancient documents.
Wellness care! Our survival and success into the future depends on it. We know that drugs do not heal and some have serious life threatening side effects. The Doctor doesn’t heal, so what are we left with? What we are left with is the truth that we are self healing and self regulating organisms and that the regulation of our bodily functions, including all cells, tissues, organs and systems of our body is under the direct influence of our nervous system.
Interference to the nervous system as a result of a spinal vertebra being out of alignment causes interference to our nervous system- called a subluxation- and leads to “dis-ease” and eventually “disease” and then “dysfunction” and possibly “pathology”. Tissues without regulation by the nervous system die. Think of completely severed nerves to limbs or organs. Partial interference to the nervous system will result in partial dysfunction of either the sensory nerves, motor nerves or trophic nerves. Think atrophy of muscles or organs. This can happen before you even perceive pain.
The Chiropractor is the only trained professional that recognizes the “subluxation” and interference to your bodies innate healing potential as a result of a misaligned vertebra pinching or choking spinal nerves. Chiropractors are world renown as low back pain, neck pain and limb pain specialists, but many overlook the benefits to the rest of the body as well.
Anecdotal and research reports many long term benefits of continuing chiropractic care beyond just getting out of pain. I am of the opinion that life is far more than just getting out of or preventing disease. Life is a process of growth and development that changes from one day to the next. Physically, emotionally, spiritually, intellectually, and in our relationships, we are different than we were at age two or even yesterday. The process of life and living, the human experience is one of maximal growth and development in each of these areas. We need to be prepared to design and develop our lives fully. This is WELLNESS CARE!
No one would think twice when their dentist recommends you brush and floss and go in for regular dental checkups as long as possible. You wouldn’t think twice at the notion of bathing the rest of your life or changing the oil in your vehicle the rest of your ownership either. When you consider that the nervous system controls everything in your body, it only makes sense that you would want to keep your spine and nervous system as healthy and functional as possible with regular checkups, for life!
I look to my mother and father of 86 and 89 years of age for their examples. My dad is on no medication, and he has regular spinal checkups and uses diet and nutritional supplements to stay healthy. My mom bowls, takes exercise classes and gets her spine checked regularly for over 27 years. They are healthy, active, of sound mind and body (they laugh when I say that), drive their cars and participate fully in life! Thanks to Chiropractic care.
Chiropractic care for life? You bet!
