You’ll have to decide whether you need a chiropractor or not. I’ve chosen to see a chiropractor regularly for the past 20 years. I didn’t always see my chiropractor regularly. I used to only go when I hurt, had pain or couldn’t move anymore. I would see him for a week or two, and if my pain was really bad, maybe a couple of months. When I felt better, I would stop going and coast (downhill) for a while until my problem came back, and then I would start the whole procedure again. Sound familiar? I was in the band-aid mode. I was treating symptoms, rather than fixing the problem. It was crisis care and it wasn’t working. Why? When I had follow up x rays done after five years of the” hit and run Chiropractic care”, my x rays showed that my spine was deteriorating, discs were degenerating and arthritic bone spurs were growing and getting worse. My choice at the time to only see my chiropractor only when I hurt was causing my spine to decay, even though I “felt fine”!
Here are some of the lessons I learned as I matured in my Chiropractic practice. What I noticed from my regular patients was that, if they didn’t work at correcting their spinal alignment at home, in addition to their adjustments with me, then they progressively got worse. Their pain came back more often, the pain was more severe and the pain would last longer before it started to go away. Band-aid? Fix the problem? What about going to the gym, regular massages and taking yoga classes? Yes, your back and spine FEEL better, but these disciplines work differently than chiropractic. They do not correct spinal alignment.
Chiropractors work with your spine and nervous system. We remove interference to the nervous system by gently adjusting the spinal alignment. The best analogy I can use is the “kink in the garden hose”. Imagine your garden is failing or even dying because there is a kink in the garden hose, starving the garden of life promoting water? Dumping chemicals or fertilizer on the garden (drugs) will not bring back life to the plants if the problem is a lack of water. The only solution is to identify where the interference to the water flow ( life energy) is and release the blockage. Hopefully, the problem is corrected before the plants wither and die.
The sad news is that oftentimes, a spinal misalignment doesn’t hurt until significant nerve damage has been done. Symptoms of pain, numbness, tingling, muscle weakness and organ dysfunction are sometimes the early signals of nerve problems.
I CHOOSE to see my Chiropractor regularly, because I choose to be healthy for life and that means in addition to eating well, exercising and having a positive outlook on life, I will have a healthy spine and nervous system. I need a chiropractor to detect and correct my nerve interferences.
How do I know if my spine is “out of alignment”? I get a spinal check up!
