Cold Laser Therapy, otherwise known as LLLT – Low Level Laser Therapy has been used therapeutically
since its discovery for healing since the 1960’s. This is not new and it has been perfected over the last
forty years. There are over 24,000 scientific articles researching laser therapy. There are over 20 English
speaking international laser therapy medical associations and even more in other languages.
What all the research proves is that laser therapy works in over 90% of cases and that the possible side
effects are minimal (sometimes an increased sensation where the laser is applied and changing what we
do makes this go away).
In very simple terms, when laser light is applied over tissues and joints that have pain, inflammation,
scar tissue and swelling, healing begins. Your body absorbs the light energy and converts it into chemical
energy in the cells and this increased energy supplies the necessary umph to kick start the healing
process. The patient does not feel anything during the treatment. Goggles must be worn.
Some patients notice an improvement after the first treatment and many more take time for the energy
to build up in their body before changes are seen or experienced. A general rule of thumb is, the longer
you’ve had the problem, the longer it will take to get better. Of course there are always exceptions to the
Young athletes and professionals with sports injuries heal very quickly, in as little as 4-8 sessions. Laser
therapy reduces healing time by over 50% so they can return to the field, the links, the ice, the gym, the
dance floor or the court.
Golf injuries respond quickly to laser treatments because most golfers are active and look after their
general good health. Backs, knees, wrists, elbows, shoulders, necks and hips are the most common
injuries golfers suffer with. These injuries all respond quickly to treatment if they come in early before too
much damage is done.
We use laser treatments to help quit smoking as well as using it to treat patients with depression, mood
disorders and weight loss. Come to the workshop to learn more.
